Fez, August 2, 2012
A train derailed on Thursday at 6.45 pm in Fez (200 km north-east of Rabat), leaving 45 people injured.
The train departed earlier in the day from Oujda (540 km east of Rabat) and was due to arrive in Fez at around 7 pm. ?The accident took place right at the time when people were getting ready to break their fast in this 13th day of the holy month of Ramadan. Immediately after the incident, the passengers expressed their disgruntlement at the state of the trains in Morocco.
According to trusted sources, the main causes of the derailment lie in the dilapidated states of the rails, as well as the lack of maintenance.
