University to host international leisure conference

The conference, called The ?L? word: new landscapes of Leisure, aims to explore the meaning and value of leisure and how leisure studies shapes real and virtual places and spaces today.

It will be held at the University?s Putteridge Bury conference centre ? a mansion set in 30 acres of panoramic gardens, on the outskirts of Luton.

The Leisure Studies Association (LSA) Annual Conference will be hosted by the University?s Division of Tourism and Leisure and Institute for Tourism Research (INTOUR).

The University?s Head of Tourism and Leisure Dr Sally Everett said: ?I am delighted we?ve been chosen to host this very prestigious event which will welcome around 100 delegates from around the world.

?It was a very competitive process. For the first time in LSA?s conference history, we will have a live Twitter feed to ensure that the conference is as accessible as possible. We aim to involve everyone in these new online ?landscapes of leisure??.

The chair of the LSA Karl Spracklen said: ?The LSA is excited about the potential of the University of Bedfordshire. There is a strong reputation for research excellence in leisure, sport and tourism. We are excited by the theme of the conference as it is timely.?
